Fly a Kite

Today was a beautiful day to go fly a kite.  We drove to a gorgeous beach/ park where we surprisingly enough didn't have to fight for airspace to fly our kite.  It really couldn't have been more perfect.  It was warm but not too warm, and windy but not a cold wind.  Some shots of the day...

This is me flying the kite and snapping a picture with the other hand:

Bombshell Beauty

My kids were thrilled this evening when I announced that we were going to the park for me to take pictures... of someone other than them!   They came along to keep me company anyways...

I had an idea for a dress that was slightly retro, like a full-skirted 1950's style halter dress. and since I only had a metre of the fabric that I wanted to use, I knew it needed to be in a small size, so Evelyn was my intended recipient.  But since I am still pretty new to creating my own patterns, I was off on my measurements and my skinny minnie was swimming in it.  I put the call out on facebook looking for a size 2/3 girly to model it for me. It was great because the mom who answered the call was a friend from highschool that I haven't seen in a long time, so we got a chance to catch up at the same time!

So here is the little bombshell beauty with the most gorgeous complexion!

Picnic in the Park

We finally had a nice summer day here.  The weather has been so unbelievably crappy that we have pretty much done nothing summery yet.  But today?  It was the perfect summer day for a family picnic in the park...

...a day for family... (this is "Aunty Curly")

...for sisterly love...

...for hugs with dad...

...for expanding an evergrowing collection of freckles...

...for checking out the wildlife and scenery... (and yes, if you live in southern USA, these ARE the Canadian geese that fly south every winter and come poop all over your beaches!)

...a day for just hanging out and enjoying the warm summer day.

Vintage Circus/ Carnival Birthday Party

For my daughter Laina's 8th birthday, we threw a joint party with her best friend Hannon. We gave them a choice of different themes and they choose "vintage circus/ carnival". July is a great time of year to hold an outdoor circus party so we went with it! I made them matching outfits with ruffle tanks and bustle skirts modelled after Loves Me Not. We had the party at a farmhouse/ barn and the field was mowed so that their were winding paths leading up to all the different games stations. The kids got to run around to the different stations and win tickets to spend at the prize shop (which was for their goody bags). We asked that the party goers not bring the girls gifts since so many people were coming, and offered the option of bringing a donation to the SPCA. In the end the girls raised $356 to donate to the SPCA and they were thrilled with that! This is going to be ridiculously picture heavy so I'd better get down to it!
